REBUILDING CAPACITY AFTER LOSS

You lost your person over a year ago. You’re functioning. But it’s costing you too much.

Your significant loss happened more than a year ago.

You are working. Making decisions. Looking after people. Carrying responsibilities. Doing what needs to be done.

But the effort required has changed.

Work takes more out of you. Small decisions feel disproportionately tiring. Things that once happened almost automatically now require thought and effort. And by the time you have done what has to be done, there is often very little left for your health, relationships, interests or the parts of life you actually want to participate in.

Rebuilding Capacity After Loss is a four-week live online programme designed for exactly this part of grief.

You’ll learn to recognise what is taking more from you now, understand where your available capacity is going, and use practical ways to reduce unnecessary mental and everyday demands.

You’ll build your own Capacity Map and develop a more workable way of managing your energy, attention, decisions and responsibilities — without treating grief as something you need to get over first.

4 weeks · Maximum 12 people · Weekly live teaching + embodied practice · 2 private reviews · Personal Capacity Map · £395

Perhaps you've been wondering...

Why can I manage work, but have almost nothing left afterwards?

Why do small decisions take so much out of me?

Why do ordinary tasks require so much more effort than they used to?

Why do I keep postponing things I actually want to do?

Why is looking after myself often the first thing to disappear when life gets busy?

Why do I become overwhelmed more quickly than I used to?

And why does everyday life still feel so demanding?

If you recognise yourself here, this programme was created for exactly this part of grief.

What makes this programme different?

Many forms of grief support focus primarily on emotions and the experience of the loss.

This programme looks at another part of grief:

What has become harder in your everyday life and what is it costing you?

We look at how grief can affect attention, decision-making, energy and everyday functioning, then use that understanding practically.

You’ll begin to see where your available capacity is going, which demands are taking more than they need to, and where small changes could make daily life more manageable.

The aim is not simply to understand why things feel harder.

But to learn what you can actually do about it.

Imagine having more of your life available to you again.

Imagine getting to the end of the day and still having something left.

Enough to cook yourself a proper meal. Go for a walk. Call someone you love. Say yes to something you actually want to do.

Imagine making plans without immediately wondering whether you’ll have the energy for them.

Being able to care for your health without it feeling like one more impossible demand.

Feeling more present with the people you love. Becoming interested in things again. Having moments when life feels like more than a list of things to get through.

Not because you have left your grief behind.

But because carrying it no longer means that everything else has to disappear around it.

The goal is not to get your old life back. It is to have more room to live the life that is here now.

Over four weeks we'll explore...

WEEK ONE

Making Sense Of What Grief Changes.

We’ll look at how grief can affect attention, memory, decision-making, energy and your ability to handle everyday demands and why these changes can persist long after the initial loss.

You’ll begin your personal Capacity Map, identifying:

  • what is taking more out of you than it used to
  • where your energy and attention are currently going
  • the situations that leave you disproportionately depleted
  • what tends to get squeezed out when your capacity is low

You’ll leave Week One with a clearer picture of what is happening in your own life and where change is possible.

WEEK TWO

Guilt, Shame and the Expectations We Carry After Loss

We’ll look at the guilt, shame and comparison that can arise when your grief does not match your own expectations or what you believe others expect from you.

You’ll explore:

  • the pressure to grieve in the “right” way
  • guilt about struggling, coping, enjoying life or moving forward
  • comparing yourself with who you were before the loss
  • the impact of other people’s expectations
  • how grief naturally moves between loss and life

You’ll leave Week Two with a clearer sense of which expectations are yours, which are not, and how to respond to yourself with less pressure and more honesty.

WEEK THREE

Beginning to Rebuild Capacity

We’ll look at practical ways to reduce unnecessary strain, including:

  • decision load and mental clutter
  • cognitive offloading and simple systems
  • pacing and recognising when your capacity is dropping
  • boundaries around demands, responsibilities and other people
  • reducing friction in everyday tasks
  • supporting sleep, movement, nourishment and recovery without turning them into more obligations

You’ll leave Week Three with practical tools you can use immediately to make everyday life take less out of you while learning to live with grief.

WEEK FOUR

Carrying Grief Forward

We’ll explore:

  • continuing bonds and the ways a relationship can remain part of your life
  • identity after loss and who you are becoming now
  • guilt or discomfort around joy, pleasure and moving forward
  • difficult dates, anniversaries and predictable periods of increased grief
  • reintroducing interests, connection and meaningful activity without forcing it
  • building a practical plan for the months ahead

You’ll leave Week Four with a clearer sense of how to carry your grief forward without letting it define the whole shape of your life.

How the programme works

Each part of the programme is designed to help you understand your own patterns and apply what you learn to everyday life.

Each week includes:

A live 30-40-minute teaching session
Clear, practical teaching on the week’s theme, grounded in grief research and everyday experience.

A 10-20-minute guided embodied practice
Using mindfulness, breath and gentle movement to help you pause, reconnect with your body and work with what you are noticing.

A practical focus for the week
Small reflections, experiments and tools that help you take what we discuss into your actual day-to-day life.

Replay access for seven days
So you can revisit the teaching or take part even if you cannot attend live.

You’ll also receive:

A private 20-minute Personal Capacity Review after Week One
We’ll look at your Capacity Map together, identify what is taking the most out of you, and clarify where to focus during the rest of the programme.

A private 20-minute Integration Review after Week Four
We’ll look at what you have learned, what has changed, and how you can continue using the tools and framework after the programme ends.

Your personal Capacity Map and continuation plan
Something practical you can return to as your capacity, circumstances and grief continue to change.

Who this programme is for

Rebuilding Capacity After Loss is for adults living with a significant bereavement who are generally functioning  but finding that everyday life takes far more out of them than it used to.

It may be right for you if:

  • you are working, caring for others or managing your responsibilities, but have very little left afterwards

  • concentration, decisions or ordinary tasks require more effort than they once did

  • your health, relationships, interests or social life are increasingly getting whatever energy remains

  • you become overwhelmed or depleted more easily than you expect

  • your loss was some time ago, yet you are still surprised by how demanding everyday life can feel

  • you want practical ways to work with these changes without being asked to “move on” from your grief

You do not need to be struggling all the time.

And you do not need to grieve in any particular way.

You simply need to recognise that the way you are functioning now is costing you more than you want it to and be ready to explore what could make life more workable.

After losing my father as a child, my younger brother as a teenager, and later my older brother and my mother, I became deeply interested in understanding why grief changes so much more than our emotions.

Today my work brings together lived experience, professional grief training, neuroscience, mindfulness and years of supporting people through loss.

My aim isn’t to fix grief or rush it.

It’s to help people understand what’s happening, reduce unnecessary self-blame and gently rebuild the capacity to participate more fully in life again.

Frequently Asked Questions

No.

This is an educational and supportive programme rather than psychotherapy or counselling.

We will explore grief, everyday functioning, capacity, self-blame and practical ways of working with what has changed, but you will not be asked to process your loss therapeutically within the group.

It is not a form of emergency or crisis support. If you are in immediate distress or require urgent help, please contact appropriate emergency or professional services.

Rebuilding Capacity After Loss is for adults whose significant bereavement happened more than a year ago and who are generally functioning, but finding that functioning costs far more than it used to.

You may be working, caring for others, managing responsibilities and doing what needs to be done, while noticing changes in concentration, energy, decision-making, motivation or how much you have left for yourself afterwards.

You do not need to be struggling all the time, and you do not need to grieve in any particular way.

I use capacity as a practical way of describing what you have available to meet the cognitive, emotional, physical and social demands of everyday life.

It is not a diagnosis or a clinical measure.

The programme helps you notice what is currently taking more from you, what affects how much you have available, and where practical changes could make everyday life feel less demanding.

The one-year point is not a rule about how long grief should last.

I have chosen it because this programme is specifically designed for people beyond the earliest phase of bereavement who may be asking different questions.

You may no longer need help simply getting through the immediate aftermath, but you may still be wondering why work, decisions, relationships, concentration or everyday responsibilities take so much more from you than they once did.

Each live Zoom session lasts approximately one hour.

The first 40 minutes are teaching and guided reflection. We will explore grief research, capacity, everyday functioning and practical ways of understanding what has changed.

The final 20 minutes are a gentle embodied practice using elements such as mindfulness, breathing, body awareness and accessible movement.

There will be short opportunities for reflection during the teaching, but you will never be required to share personal details about your grief.

No.

You are very welcome to contribute if you want to, but there is no expectation that you tell your story or disclose personal details to the group.

You can participate quietly and still benefit fully from the programme.

The emphasis is on helping you understand your own experience and apply the ideas privately to your life, rather than on asking everyone to share their grief story.

You will receive access to the replay of the teaching and guided practice for seven days after each session.

Participant discussion will not be included in the replay, so anything shared within the group remains separate from the recorded teaching.

This means you can catch up on the programme content without other participants’ personal contributions being recorded.

Your place includes:

  • four live weekly Zoom sessions
  • a maximum group size of twelve
  • 40 minutes of teaching and 20 minutes of embodied practice each week
  • weekly follow-up email  with key points, reflections and practical exercises to try during the week.
  • your personal Capacity Map
  • a private 20-minute Personal Capacity Review after Week One
  • a private 20-minute Integration Review after Week Four
  • replay access after each live session
  • programme resources and a personal continuation plan

Investment is £395.

A split-payment option is also available.
